Welcome to the ADEQ Air Quality Division
The mission of the Air Quality Division is to protect and enhance public health and the environment by controlling present and future sources of air pollution.
The division ensures the safety and quality of the air in Arizona by monitoring and analyzing air quality data, regulating sources of air pollution, and working with other state, local, and federal agencies to plan and implement strategies to protect Arizona's future air quality.
The Air Quality Division's core responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing programs designed to ensure that Arizona meets national air quality standards
- Regulating the emission of air pollutants from industries and facilities by issuing and ensuring compliance with permits that ensure emissions are within healthful limits
- Monitoring Arizona's air quality
- Investigating complaints and violations of Arizona's air quality laws
- Developing state rules governing air quality standards

Other Jurisdictions
Three Arizona counties have their own air pollution control programs and are not under the Air Quality Division's jurisdiction.
Most Native American Reservations are under the jurisdiction of the federal Environmental Protection Agency. The Gila River Indian Community has its own air pollution control program. Additional information about many of Arizona's tribes is available through the Intertribal Council of Arizona.
