Program A
Safety Training: Confined Space, Trench& Excavation
Confined Space Training
200 minutes
This course is a compliance overview for permit-required confined
spaces. Topics include confined space hazards, testing and controls,
entry permits and OSHA requirements for entry into a permit-required
confined space. Roles and responsibilities of the Authorized Entrant,
Attendant and Entry Supervisor are discussed and evaluated based on
site-specific needs.
Trench & Excavation Training
200 minutes
This course covers OSHA's Excavation standard through the eyes of the
competent person. Participants will be taught field applications to
minimize the risks of employee injuries, accidents and equipment
failures on the worksite. "Competent person" means one who is capable
of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or
working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous or dangerous to
employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures
to eliminate them. Other topics include information on what to do
before trenching or excavation, competent person roles and
responsibilities, soil classification, site inspections, weather
considerations, protective support systems, sloping and benching and
emergency response for cave-ins.
Operations: Applied Math, System Compliance, Show Me the Money and
Certification Review
Applied Math for Operators
200 minutes
This course is designed as a math refresher for operators in preparation
for taking a certification exam and/or to improve on-the-job math
skills. Lack of adequate math skills may be a reason an operator fails
to pass the certification exam or not operating water facilities within
standard operating practices.
Math techniques, formulas and practice problems are provided to instruct
and build math confidence in students that are in attendance. The
practice problems are taken from the AWWA manual and represent real
operational situations. (For example: volume, detention, dosage and
pumping calculations.)
Is Your Water System in Compliance?
50 minutes
The SDWA Rule Wizard enables a system to determine federal (and State)
monitoring requirements for your community water system. The class will
review the Rule Wizard as a resource, sample collection, chain of
custody and system record keeping requirements to maintain system
compliance.
Show Me the Money!
50 minutes
Every water system must have sufficient financial resources to maintain
operations and maintenance - as well as preparing for emergencies. The
ability to obtain funding requires a budget for day to day operation as
well as scheduled emergency maintenance. This class will show you
budgeted basics and asset management techniques.
Certification Exam: Need-to-Know
50 minutes
This course will review the material and resources to study in order to
prepare for certification exams. Math formulas will be reviewed.
Resources will be highlighted and test taking techniques will be
reviewed.
Program B
Safety Training: CPR, HAZCOM
CPR/Standard First Aid Certification
200 minutes
The hands-on CPR and First Aid training course prepares employees in the
proper administration of first aid until more advanced help can be
obtained. Students will apply their knowledge and skills in first aid
response by observing and reacting to simulated real-life emergencies
HAZCOM
200 minutes
Violations of OSHA's Hazard Communication standard are consistently one
of the top ten citations delivered by OSHA compliance officers. HAZCOM
is the communication of chemical hazards found within the workplace to
employees, contractors, vendors and visitors alike. In this workshop we
will address the regulatory requirements and put a written HAZCOM
program together step by step that can be taken back to your
organization and implemented immediately. If you have a current HAZCOM
program or part of one please bring it to the workshop and we will
review and ensure that it is current and accurate.
Operations: Water Drop Chemistry, Distribution Quality and Quantity and
Certification Review
Water Drop Chemistry
100 minutes
Water Drop Chemistry topics include alkalinity, pH, disinfection,
coagulation, iron and hardness. This course is applicable to the
operator in the everyday workplace and will relate to previous
experience. A better understanding of water chemistry will improve
operator performance.
Distribution Quality and Quantity
100 minutes
Water customers expect adequate water quality as well as quantity of
water. Operational techniques and improved standard operating
procedures will improve the quality and quantity of water delivered.
There are tools available to assist the operator in assessing the water
distribution system.
Certification Exam: Need-to-Know
50 minutes
This course will review the material and resources to study in order to
prepare for certification exams. Math formulas will be reviewed.
Resources will be highlighted and test taking techniques will be
reviewed.
Consumer Confidence: One-Stop-Shop
100 minutes
Community Water Systems are required to prepare and distribute Consumer
Confidence Reports (CCR). This course will provide drinking water
system owners and operators resources including templates and timelines
to accomplish this EPA requirement.
